Trees in a changing environment – a specialist training session at GARDENIA 2026
How do changing environmental conditions affect trees? How can we identify risks and assess their condition accurately? What role do instrumental diagnostics and new technologies play in modern arboriculture?
The answers to these questions will be revealed during the specialist training course ‘Trees in a changing environment – growth, threats and diagnostics’, organised by the Polish Arborists’ Federation as part of the GARDENIA 2026 Fair.
The training programme comprises four expert lectures focusing on the most significant contemporary challenges relating to the protection, care and diagnosis of trees.

Programme:
- ‘The limits of trees’ drought tolerance’
Dr Urszula Zajączkowska
A lecture on trees’ resilience to water scarcity, climate change and the physiological processes affecting their condition and the risk of damage.
- “Retrenchment pruning. From crown reduction to a long-term tree management strategy”
Andrzej Cichoń
A session on managing trees in the later stages of development, natural crown restructuring processes and planning long-term care for mature trees.
- “Errors in instrumental diagnostics and their impact on tree condition assessment”
Dr Wojciech Bobek, Eng., Landscape Architect
How should instrumental diagnostics be used correctly? The lecture will discuss the most common errors – from taking measurements, through data analysis, to their interpretation.
- “LiDAR – the application of modern technologies in tree assessment”
Dr hab. Eng. Piotr Wężyk, Professor at the University of Agriculture in Kraków (URK)
Participants will learn about the potential applications of LiDAR technology in the inventory, monitoring and management of trees and green infrastructure, including the creation of 3D and 4D models.
The training is aimed, amongst others, at arborists, tree diagnosticians, green space managers, landscape architects, designers and contractors, representatives of public administration, and all those professionally involved in the protection and care of trees.
The training will take place on 6 October in Pavilion 7, Conference Room 1G/H.
